Welcoming New Souls: A Testament to Equality
Every day brings new miracles, but some days bring more than others. Today, we are blessed to witness such a special miracle right here on our apartment terrace. We've been graced with a mother cat choosing our humble cozy box as the place to bring her kittens into the world.
Each squirm and mew from these newborn kittens is a joy to witness, a testament to the cycle of life, as they prepare to explore the world that awaits them. Within our belief, it is said that these kittens represent souls that have taken a new body, a wonderful perspective that fills our hearts with awe and reverence.

This notion resonates with the philosophical teachings of Adi Shankara, a revered figure in our culture. He preached the universal oneness of all souls, asserting the equality and unity of all beings, no matter their form. It's a beautiful and humbling thought, isn't it?
In fact, there's a fascinating episode from Adi Shankara's life that
encapsulates this wisdom. It is said that Lord Shiva, in the guise of a
chandala, encountered Adi Shankara to emphasize the very essence of this
message. This interaction led to a profound realization for Adi Shankara and
was immortalized in a powerful Sanskrit verse that continues to inspire us.
This verse is from Adi Shankara's Manisha Panchakam.
।।श्रीः मनीषापञ्चकम्।।
The translation of the verse is:
If a person has attained the firm knowledge that he is not an object of perception, but is that pure consciousness which shines clearly in the states of waking, dream, and deep sleep, and which, as the witness of the whole universe, dwells in all bodies from that of the Creator Brahma to that of the ant, then he is my Guru, irrespective of whether he is an outcaste or a Brahmana. This is my conviction1
The verse and the teachings remind us that every soul, whether it enters the world in a palace or a cozy box on a terrace, is fundamentally equal. It's a message that extends beyond our apartment terrace, beyond our own lives, and into the heart of all existence.
As we watch these kittens begin their journey, we remember this verse and these teachings, and we are reminded that each soul is divine, each life is precious, and each birth is a miracle.
Enjoy the video of these tiny miracles, and may it serve as a reminder of the inherent equality and divinity of all souls.
