Beyond the Obvious: A Real Insight from Artificial Intelligence

Image
Three decades in the tech industry have filled my mind with stories, but this one has stuck with me. Imagine an AI system trained to spot the difference between dogs and wolves. It has been shown thousands of images, each labeled as either 'wolf' or 'dog.' The goal for our AI is simple: determine whether the picture it's examining shows a dog or a wolf. Over time, our AI becomes highly proficient, achieving an impressive accuracy of 90%. But here's the twist: upon further investigation, experts discovered that our AI wasn't truly focusing on the animals in the photos. Instead, its attention was drawn to the background. Interestingly, the majority of wolf pictures featured snowy landscapes, while the dog pictures were taken in various locations, usually without snow. Our AI had become sidetracked. Rather than differentiating between wolves and dogs, it had formed an association—'wolf' with 'snow' and 'dog' with 'no snow.' It wa...

Demo Front ends - To Unlock the Value of API-only Data Products

Image
1: The Challenge of Communicating API Business Value Developing APIs brings with it the challenge of effectively communicating their business value.  APIs are technical artifacts that developers easily understand, but business stakeholders often require more tangible demonstrations to grasp their potential.   While developers can comprehend JSON payloads, OpenAPI (Swagger) specs, and Postman demos, these technical representations may not resonate with stakeholders who respond better to interactive experiences. The need to bridge the gap in understanding and conveying the value of APIs has led to the emergence of demo front ends. 2: The Power of Demo Front ends for API-only Data Products Demo front ends offer a powerful solution for API-only products by providing stakeholders with a visual and interactive representation of the product's capabilities. By building a custom graphical user interface (UI) alongside the API, stakeholders can relate to familiar...

The Power of Information Encoding - Classical Bits Vs Qubits

Image
Classical BIT / Binary Digit) / Directional Binary Pointers / Scalar / O or 1 / Up or Down Classical bits, represented as BITS, are akin to directional binary pointers. They offer a simple choice between two options, such as pointing Up or Down, North or South. In the context of locating a position on Earth, classical bits provide a binary indication, like stating whether you are in the Northern Hemisphere (Up) or the Southern Hemisphere (Down). However, they do not convey precise location information beyond this binary choice. Qubit (Quantum Bits)- Precise Location Pointers (Vector) - In the context of locating a position on Earth, envision a qubit as a vector pointer that combines latitude and longitude coordinates, pointing to a specific location on the Earth. A single qubit vector state can convey both latitude and longitude (2 real numbers), providing a multidimensional representation that goes beyond the binary scope of classical bits. This expanded encoding capabilit...

Mr. Grover's Magical Library

Introduction: A Curiosity for Learning and the Fascination of Books My curiosity for learning and my insatiable fondness for books have always propelled me on various intellectual adventures. On one such recent journey, I encountered an intriguing confluence of libraries, books, and quantum computing, and I felt compelled to share my discoveries through this blog post. The Enigmatic Library with a Search Dilemma Picture a massive library with thousands of books. A labyrinth of knowledge waiting to be explored, but there's a catch - there's no catalogue or index to guide your way. You're in search of a specific book, and the only feasible method seems to be going through each book one by one. This resembles a traditional "unstructured search" and can be quite a time-consuming task if the library is vast enough. Quantum Computing to the Rescue: Grover's Algorithm Here's where quantum computing swoops in like a superhero - in the form of Grover...

Mark Rober's Path Breaking Address to MIT Trailblazers....
